The International Aquaculture Feed Formulation Database (IAFFD) was originally developed by a team of academic scientists with credentials in aquaculture nutrition with the support of the United States Soybean Export Council (USSEC), MITACS (Canada) and the Maximizing Agricultural Revenue through Knowledge, Enterprise Development and Trade (MARKET) Project, an initiative funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). USSEC and other organizations are providing sustained financial and technical support and working cooperatively for the maintenance and continuous improvement of the IAFFD and/or supporting training activities using the IAFFD.

The information contained in this database are simply guidelines. These are provided free of charge and without warranties. The nutritional specifications were developed based on a review of the scientific and technical literature, as well as, as novel factorial nutrient requirement models. The feed ingredient composition data were developed from the compilation and integration of information from a wide variety of sources. These values represent a best effort attempt to compile and make available information. These guidelines are meant to help aquaculture feed manufacturers make informed decisions about formulation of feeds for different species at different life stages, weight ranges and production systems. However, adherence to a nutritional specification / guideline does not guarantee a successful outcome. Ultimately, users (feed manufacturers, nutritionists, feed formulators, consultants, etc.) of this database must make their own decisions about the suitability of nutritional specifications on a case-by-case basis using their judgement, knowledge and expertise. A guideline is not intended to take the user's judgment when formulating feeds for particular species.
